Funeral Rites Held for Prominent Basin Stockman
Funeral services for Phillip Stringham, 84, prominent Basin stockman and active L.D.S. church worker, who died of a heart attack Saturday were conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Maeser ward chapel by Bishop Lester Bingham. Burial took place in the Maeser Fairview cemetery.
Mr. Stringham, a brother-in-law of Heber J. Grant, president of the L.D.S. church, was preparing to drive to Vernal when he was stricken Saturday.
He was born in Salt Lake City July 14, 1856, a son of Bryant and Susan Ashley Stringham, who came to Utah in 1847. He spent his childhood in Salt Lake City and attended school there.
Mr. Stringham married Caroline A. Crouch of London in 1874. She died in 1905. In 1907 he married Mary B. Hall who died four years ago.
Mr. Stringham came to Ashley valley in 1879 where he has lived since. He became one of the Basin's most successful woolgrowers and was actively engaged in that business until his death. He was the first recorder elected in Uintah county. He was active in L.D.S. church during his entire life.

Surviving are seven daughters, Mrs. Joseph P. Hacking, Mrs. Sylvanus Collett, Mrs. Mark M. Hall, and Miss Beatrice Stringham of Vernal, Mrs. Don B. Colton of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Marion Shaffer of Manti and Mrs. H. L. Reid of St. George; three sons, Bryant H., William S., and Ray Stringham of Vernal; two brothers, Henry and George Stringham of Salt Lake City; three sisters, Mrs. Jane Stephenson of Holden and Mrs. Frank Grant and Mrs. Harriet Nowel of Los Angeles, Cal.; 52 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren.
