Derby, Winnifred (b1880) - Obituary Ogden Standard Examiner 1927-02-27, Page 17 Mrs. H. John Layton Dies Winniefred [Winnifred] Layton of West Layton died Saturday afternoon in a local hospital after an illness of 17 days. She was the wife of H. John Layton who survives her. Mrs. Layton was known for her work in the Relief Society of the L.D.S. church, having served as first counselor in the West Layton ward. In addition, she was affiliated with the primary organization and an active work in the American Red Cross. Mrs. Layton was born in Bennett, Nebraska, June 16, 1880, a daughter of Lewis and Mary Henderson Derby. She married Mr. Layton in Salt Lake, October 28, 1902, and had lived in West Layton since that time. Her mother and several brothers and sisters survive her, all of them living in Union, Ore. Brothers and sisters are: Mrs. Robert Blackner [Blacker] [Beulah Belle Derby], Mrs. Sterl Delapp [Stearle DeLap] [Mary Louise Derby], Mrs. Frances C. Tallman [Frances Cleve Derby], and Lewis P. Derby [Louis Phillip Derby]. She is also survived by the following children: Mrs. Everett Taylor [Frances D. Layton], Sherman D., Stanford P., and Rex Lynn Layton, all of Layton, and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at two o'clock in the Kaysville tabernacle. Bishop Irvin Call will preside at the services. Friends may call at the family residence in West Layton on Sunday evening and Monday all day. On Tuesday morning the body will be removed to Mrs. James Layton's residence, where friends may call until 1:30 pm. |

Derby, Winnifred (b1880) - Obituary Mrs. Layton of Layton Dies at a Hospital Mrs. John Layton Jr, 47, of West Layton died in an Ogden hospital Saturday. Mrs. Layton was born in Bennett, Neb, June 16, 1880, and came to Utah in 1889, living in Farmington until Oct 28, 1902, when she was married to John H Layton Jr and moved to Layton where she had since resided. Mrs. Layton has been president of the West Layton Relief society and an officer in the Davis county chapter of the American Red Cross. Surviving are her husband and the following children: Mrs. Everett Taylor, Sherman D., Standford P, and Rex Lynn Layton, all of Layton. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Kaysville Tabernacle, Bishop Irvin Call being in charge. Music was by the West Layton ward choir, vocal solos by David Cook of Syracuse, Mrs. Mamie Monahan of Salt Lake City and Robert Burken of Layton. The speakers were Bishop Ivan [Irvin] Call, President F. [Francis] H. Nalder, J. Golden Kimball, Salt Lake, David E. Layton, Ray Corbridge and Jesse M. Smith. Opening prayer was by H. [Henry] H. Blood, benediction by W. W. Roberts and grave dedicated by Rufus [Elbern] Dixon. There were numerous floral offerings. Interment took place in the Kaysville cemetery. |
